SPEAKER

Craig J. Mohnacky, DVM
Founder and Chairman of the Helping Paws Foundation

Dr. Craig Mohnacky hails from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He’s called California home since he opened his first veterinary practice in 1981.

With tremendous support from his loving wife, Rose, Mohnacky Animal Hospitals of Carlsbad, Vista and Escondido continue to thrive today. It’s more than just a business for them: it’s been a way to give back to the men and women who give so much for our freedom.

He has provided veterinary care for 40 years in a county that’s home to nearly 250,000 veterans and more than 100,000 active service members. While he’s always supported military families, he formalized his philanthropic platform in 2013 when he launched the Helping Paws Foundation. Now, he and his team work diligently to help keep military families united with their beloved pets.

His 501(c)(3) provides low and no-cost veterinary care for troops and veterans in need. By establishing trusting relationships and partnerships within our community, Helping Paws has become an essential resource in support of our fine military families.

Pets offer a source of stability for loved ones during a deployment, and they offer a sense of comfort for veterans with PTSD, anxiety and depression. Without their help, a lot of local veterans would face the heartbreaking decision of premature relinquishment, or worse yet, economic euthanasia.

Dr. Mohnacky’s commitment to our vets has earned him the 10News Leadership Award, the Henry Schein Cares Award, the Lead San Diego Visionary Award and the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC) Service Award.

He is a wine enthusiast and an avid golfer. He and Rose have two dogs; a Bichon named Clover, and a Morki named Pebbles who provides the comic relief in the family.

He and his wife enjoy wakeboarding and water skiing with their two sons. Dr. Mohnacky was proud to have been their childhood baseball coach, and now, he’s honored they’ve chosen to work with him and continue his legacy.

His motto has always been this: “Put your best foot forward and always do your unconditional best, and you shall be rewarded with the honor of serving your clients, and their loved pets”.
